Cathedral of the Assumption, George Town
The Church of the Assumption was founded by Father Garnault in 1786. The church was so named because the Roman Catholic Eurasian community came to Penang from Kuala Kedah on the eve of the Feast of the Assumption. The present church building and adjacent presbytery erected by Father Manissol, was opened in 1861.
