This is said to be the site where Captain Francis Light first landed in 1786.  Fort Cornwallis is located at the tip and seafront on the cape in George Town.

Originally a wooden stockade, it was rebuilt in 1804 by convict labour. The stone fortification was raised to overlook the North Channel and wall was fitted with cannons. Today, this relic consists of an open-air amphitheatre and souvenir shops.  It also houses a Dutch cannon ‘Seri Rambai’ presented to the Sultan of Johor.  A statue of Sir Francis Light which was unveiled in 1939 to commemorate the 150-year anniversary of the establishment of the British settlement in Penang, was moved to the Penang museum in 1965 is relocated back at the Fort in 2003.
