War Cenotaph at Esplanade

The Esplanade refers to the stretch of waterfront beside the Padang Kota Lama (a field) at Lebuh Light. The place was popular in the early days when Nyonya maidens would go there to throw oranges into the sea (it was believed that this would bring them a good spouse). Today, the Esplanade houses an open food court and is a place where parades and processions are held. A small monument (War Cenotaph) stands here as a memorial to the victims of World War I.

Location: Lebuh Light, George Town.
