Koay Kark is actually fried rice cakes cut into small chunks (the cake is prepared mixed with some radish). It is fried with thick black soy sauce, eggs, bean sprouts and chye por (preserved vegetable bits). Chilli paste is added to give spiciness according to taste. Sometimes seafood such as prawns and squid rings are added as well.

The traditional "Char Koay Kark", or fried carrot cake or fried radish cake, is often sold some coffee shops, markets or roadside stalls.
