SUBANG: The closure of the Sultan Abdul Hamid Airport in Kedah due to the bad weather has caused Firefly and MAS to suspend its operations to Alor Setar - until further notice.
FlyFirefly Sdn Bhd marketing and communications head Angelina Fernandez said at all times the safety of passengers was their top priority.
She added that the airline was looking into alternative measures for those celebrating Deepavali or going there for business, leisure or for other reasons.
“We understand the inconvenience of our passengers. Hence, we are looking into alternative measures to address this urgency,” she said in a statement on Thursday.
“The airline will accommodate stranded passengers in the next available flight once integrity of the airport pavements is declared safe for taking off and landing by airport authorities,” she said.
Passengers are required to ensure their mobile contact details are current and active for notification of flight delay or cancellation via text message.
They may also contact Firefly’s call centre at 03-78454543 for more information and latest updates on the situation.
MAS operations director Capt Mohamed Azharuddin Osman said the airline would monitor the situation closely.
In a statement issued in Thursday, Mohamed Azharuddin said passengers on affected flights have a few travel options such as exchanging their tickets for free.
They can also fly to or from Penang or Langkawi instead of Alor Setar.
However, ground arrangements would not be covered.
Passengers could also change their travel date at no fee (regardless of ticket types), within a specified validity period.
Customers are advised to call Malaysia Airlines’ 24-hour call centre at 1-300-88-3000 or 03-78433000 or visit the ticketing offices for the latest information on the flight schedules.
